Bread dough can be particularly sticky. After kneading, dough residue often remains on bowls, dough hooks, hands or work surfaces.
With the right approach, however, this residue can be removed much more easily.
Why is bread dough so sticky?
Bread dough consists mainly of flour and water. Kneading creates an elastic dough structure that can adhere strongly to surfaces.
Doughs with a high water content can be especially sticky.
How to remove bread dough properly
1. Remove coarse dough residue
First remove larger pieces of dough with a dough scraper or dough card.
2. Use cold or lukewarm water
Very hot water can cause components of the dough to adhere more strongly to surfaces.
3. Loosen dough residue mechanically
The Teiger® dough cleaning cloth can be used to mechanically loosen sticky bread-dough residue from bowls and work surfaces.
The open mesh structure helps loosen dough residue from the surface.
