How to Clean a Dough Bowl & Remove Sticky Dough

After making bread, pizza or sourdough, sticky dough often remains in mixing bowls. Residue can collect on the bottom, around the rim and in curved areas and may dry on. With the right sequence, a dough bowl is much easier to clean.

How to clean a mixing bowl after making dough

First remove as much dough as possible with a suitable dough scraper. Then moisten the remaining residue with water and loosen it mechanically. This keeps more dough out of the washing water and makes the final cleaning easier.

Removing dried dough from the bowl

If the dough has already dried, soften it with water first. Give the residue a little time to loosen, then work on it with a suitable cleaning cloth. More: removing dried dough →

Why ordinary dishcloths can be impractical for dough

Wet dough can become trapped in dense fabrics and sponges. Teiger®, by contrast, has an open, single-layer mesh structure, so loosened dough residue can be rinsed out more easily.

The flexible mesh adapts to the bottom, sides and curves of a bowl. For delicate or unfamiliar materials, test on an inconspicuous area first and follow the manufacturer's care instructions.

Bread dough, sourdough and pizza dough

Different doughs can leave different residues. See our guides to removing bread dough, removing sourdough residue and removing pizza dough.
