Remove dried-on dough – loosen dough residue more easily

Fresh dough residue can usually still be removed quickly. It becomes more difficult when bread, pizza, cake or sourdough has already dried. The dough then often sticks firmly to bowls, dough hooks, dough scrapers or other baking utensils. With the right approach, dried-on dough residue can also be loosened much more easily.

Why does dried-on dough become so stubborn?

Dough consists partly of flour and liquid. As it dries, it loses moisture and forms a firm, sticky or crust-like layer. Residue can become particularly stuck in curves, on edges and on dough hooks.

Hard scrubbing is not always the best solution. It often helps more to moisten the residue first and then loosen it mechanically.

Remove dried-on dough step by step

  1. Moisten dough residue: Wet the affected areas with water or soak briefly.
  2. Loosen coarse residue: Carefully remove larger pieces with a suitable dough scraper or by hand.
  3. Clean remaining residue: A cleaning cloth with an open mesh structure such as Teiger® is suitable for firmly adhering dough residue.
  4. Rinse: Then clean the bowl, tool or work surface as usual.

Do not let dough dry unnecessarily long

Cleaning is easiest directly after baking or processing dough. If bowls and tools cannot be cleaned immediately, at least remove coarse residue or moisten the affected areas.

Remove dried dough from the bowl

Residue often remains on the base and where it meets the rim. More tips: Clean dough bowls.

Loosen dried dough from the dough hook

Dough hooks have curves and transitions where dough adheres particularly well. See Clean dough hooks.

We have separate guides: Remove sourdough residue and Remove pizza dough.

Why is Teiger® suitable for dough residue?

Teiger® was specially developed for cleaning stubborn dough residue. Unlike a conventional dense dishcloth, it has an open, single-layer mesh structure. Dough residue can therefore be loosened more easily without becoming as firmly embedded in dense textile fabric.

The reusable Teiger® cleaning cloth is made in Germany, has a reinforced edge, is dishwasher-safe and tested according to OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100.
