Bake your own bread for beginners – basic equipment & practical tips
Baking your own bread is easier than it may seem. You do not need a fully equipped bakery: a few ingredients, some time and a manageable set of tools are enough to get started.
What do you need to bake bread?
Useful basics include kitchen scales, a large bowl, dough scraper, suitable baking tin or vessel and, depending on the recipe, a proofing basket. Regular bakers often add a fine flour sieve and other small kitchen tools.
See our detailed guide: Basic equipment for baking bread.
Mixing, kneading and shaping dough
Dough comes into contact with bowls, dough hooks, hands and work surfaces. A flexible dough scraper helps with scraping and portioning. A fine sieve can distribute flour more evenly.
The step beginners often forget
Once the bread is in the oven, cleaning begins. Dried dough residue can stick stubbornly to bowls, hooks and tools. The Teiger® cleaning cloth was developed for this task. Its open mesh structure helps mechanically loosen dough residue.

When bread baking becomes a hobby
As you bake more often, you can expand your equipment gradually. See practical kitchen tools, sourdough equipment and the Teiger® guide.
