Clean a baking tray – loosen burnt-on food & crusts

Grease, cheese, dough and other food residue can become firmly stuck to a baking tray during baking. Burnt-on or dried residue in particular is often difficult to loosen with a normal dishcloth. By soaking and using suitable mechanical cleaning, a dirty baking tray can often be cleaned much more easily.

Allow the baking tray to cool before cleaning

Let the tray cool completely and follow the manufacturer's care instructions. Coated, enamelled and uncoated trays may have different cleaning requirements.

Soak a burnt-on baking tray

First moisten or soak firmly stuck residue with warm water. This allows dried food, dough and grease residue to soften so it can then be loosened mechanically more easily.

Remove crusts and food residue

After soaking, remove loose residue and work on remaining areas with a suitable cleaning aid. With heavy crusting, it is often better to repeat the process rather than use very high pressure.

Teiger® when cleaning baking trays

The flexible, open mesh structure of the Teiger® cleaning cloth can help mechanically loosen suitable residue. With coated or sensitive trays, always follow the manufacturer's instructions and first test carefully on an inconspicuous area.

Dough residue on the baking tray

If dough has dried on the tray, it can often be removed more easily after first being loosened with water. For more tips on sticky and dried dough residue, see our guide Remove dough residue.

Grease and burnt-on residue

Grease and burnt-on food residue often occur together on baking trays. Additional tips are available under Remove burnt-on residue and Remove grease residue.

Clean Teiger® after use

Rinse the cloth thoroughly under water. For more intensive cleaning, Teiger® is dishwasher-safe and reusable afterwards.
